Homework: Week of September 28, 2015
Upcoming tests: Spelling Test on Friday
FYI:
Spelling Lists & Sentence Homework
I’m going to try to send home spelling lists for the following week on Fridays clipped into the three ring binders… Along with the list will be a homework assignment due TUESDAY. It is you and your child’s choice whether or not they do it over the weekend, or on Monday night. (Perhaps they might want to do 3 sentences over the weekend, and 2 on Monday night?) Thank you for all of your support in the form of completed homework, handwritten notes, and emails. I appreciate all that you do!!

Homework policy:
It is important to establish a homework routine so that your child learns good study habits. It will help at home to have a quiet place and a designated time to get homework done. Nightly homework assignments will be given each weeknight, Monday through Thursday. These assignments are meant to provide additional practice on skills that we work on in class. Students should be able to complete most of this on their own. Weekends are free from regular nightly assignments. This time could be used to work on long term assignments, if any are assigned.
It is my policy that all homework is done in pencil unless otherwise specified. Written work is never done in colored pen or pencil. I also expect homework to be neatly completed.
This year nightly homework will include spelling, math, and a nightly reading activity of your child's choice. The math homework will vary to include either mixed skill/computation practice or homework from either the Envisions or Number Worlds math programs. The purpose of the reading activity is to encourage nightly reading.
Each child will have a three ring binder to be used for transporting homework. He or she will be provided with one from school, but they may use one from home if they prefer (as long as it is a three ring binder). The notebook is very useful to help your child organize their assignments and return them responsibly. Please be sure that your child brings this notebook to school EVERYDAY. I often encourage students to pack their homework into their backpack at night, to avoid the "paper chase" in the morning.
Each child was also given an "Agenda Book", otherwise referred to as a homework notebook. This must also be brought to and from school each day and kept inside the three ring binder. As part of the early morning routine in school, each child will be copying his or her homework assignment into this notebook. This helps establish good study habits and prepares students for these responsibilities in the upper grades.
To reward responsible students for consistently completing their homework, I will award a "No Homework" coupon to those that have completed every nightly assignment in one month's time (including the reading activity). The coupon can be applied to any one night's assignment. It cannot be used for long term projects such a book reports or studying for a test. The coupon must be filled out with the date, parent signature, and be attached to the homework page.
